- Tenders are invited for Construction of the Nduye Substation Created in 1992, the RFO, with more than 13,000 km², is the largest protected area of intact lowland tropical forest remaining in the DRC. The RFO is home to one of the largest surviving populations of forest elephants, the largest stronghold of okapi in the DRC, and the largest population of eastern chimpanzees in Africa. The RFO is located in the vast Ituri landscape, which includes more than 40,000 km² of contiguous forests, in which WCS is actively working to promote conservation initiatives and support sustainable agricultural practices among local communities who depend on forest resources for their livelihood and whose future integrity of the OFR is inextricably linked.
