- Tenders are invited for Baseline Survey of the Project Strengthening of IDP and Host Community Resilience in Jur River and Wau Counties Project. Johanniter International Assistance seeks the services of a suitably qualified independent external consultant (individual or institution) to conduct the baseline survey for a German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) funded project titled Strengthening of IDP and host community resilience in Jur River and Wau Counties, South Sudan. The communities of Jur River and Wau Counties of Western Bahr el Gazal (WBeG) as most in South Sudan have been affected by years of conflict whose impact is evidenced by 64,000 IDPs, with numbers expected to increase[1]. Worsening food insecurity (43.3% of WBeG population estimated to be in IPC level ‘crisis- 3 and above between October 2020 and July 2021[2]) has a ripple effect on the health and nutrition status of, especially children under 5 years and pregnant and lactating women. Limited access and demand for health services, has resulted in high malnutrition and maternal mortality as well as the prevalence of other diseases. In addition, limited access to water and sanitation facilities and poor hygiene practices increases the risk of exposure to preventable diseases. The long distances traveled by women and girls in search of services, cultural dynamics, conflict, and limited access to income, amongst other factors, increases their risk of experiencing sexual and gender-based violence (65% of women and girls have experienced physical and/ sexual violence in their lifetime[3]), and there are also limited psychosocial, protection, and legal services for survivors. In response to the crisis, most support is in the form of emergency humanitarian assistance. The Strengthening of IDP and host community resilience in Jur River and Wau Counties Project, will over 36 months aim to complement existing emergency projects by providing transitional assistance that caters to the short to medium-term needs of vulnerable IDP communities and enable them to have increased resilience to conflict and poverty-related stress triggers. The project will provide livelihoods, WASH, SGBV, and nutrition-related services to over 35,000 direct beneficiaries comprised mainly of pregnant and lactating women, women affected by GBV, vulnerable female-headed households with children, elderly, disabled, or seriously ill family members, mothers, and other caregivers of CU5, and older women.
